Copeland™ Compressors for CO₂ Refrigerant
Copeland continues to answer the increasing demand for natural refrigerants by offering complete solutions for R744 applications.
From Proven Legacy to Future-Proof Solution
Increasing environmental concerns about potential direct emissions into the atmosphere from HFC-based refrigeration systems have led to the revival of R744 (CO2) in the European refrigeration market. Regionally, this trend is reinforced by legislation and taxation schemes, which favor the use of refrigerant R744. As one of the original refrigerants used nearly 100 years ago, its environmental profile and performance is proving it a considerable alternative.
CO2 has demonstrated favorable results in different system configurations over time. It is environmentally benign compared to other refrigerants, is nonflammable, has low toxicity, wide availability, and is a low-first-cost substance.
R744 is a leading option for environmental reasons, and it can be a winner for power consumption as developments of component technology and application methods continue to reveal potential performance gains. Good experience has been gained with different system configurations over many years, particularly in central and northern Europe. The confidence resulting from this experience ensures that CO2 will be a long-term option in the foreseeable future.
A Solution for Every Need
Copeland delivers complete CO2 solutions that incorporate piston or scroll compressors, on-board electronics, digital capacity modulation, flow controls, and electronic controllers—providing high operational performance, safety, and increased system uptime.
Getting future-ready: Copeland introduces groundbreaking CO2 scroll technology for transcritical applications that advances commercial refrigeration.
The specific properties of R744 require refrigeration system design changes. The ZO/ZOV ranges are designed particularly for R744 subcritical refrigeration systems offering efficiency, reliability, and liquid handling advantages. Refrigerating cooling capacities range from 5.9-15kW for low temperature applications.
The ZL/ZLV ranges are designed particularly for R744 subcritical refrigeration systems offering efficiency, reliability, and liquid handling advantages. Refrigerating cooling capacities range from 4.4-10.8kW for low temperature applications.
The ZTI/ZTW ranges are designed particularly for R744 transcritical refrigeration systems. They feature Dynamic Vapor Injection (DVI) technology, which enables a smoother and more efficient operation of CO2 booster systems in all climates while keeping costs low. Refrigerating cooling capacities range from 7.7-18.6kW for medium temperature applications.
Ideal for R744 medium temperature cascade and booster systems, Stream CO2 compressors have a design pressure of 135 bar. Optimized refrigerant flow and heat transfer yield best performance.
